Agrocybe praecox

These are some of the most prominent mushrooms on campus.  They grow during the spring in dense clusters on wood chips and to a lesser extent in grass (perhaps due to the grass being frequently mowed).  They are not poisonous, but it is not recommended to eat them.

These were among many fungi we found in the grass in front of Denny Hall on campus. There is no apparent viel and they have a dark brown spore-print; crucial identification characteristics for mushrooms that look similar to the Agrocybe praecox. Their caps ranged from about 5-10 cm in length, and their stems were about 6-10 cm in length.
